The St. Vital Twin Bridge over the Red River project consists of a major rehabilitation of the SB and NB bridges, rehabilitation of the pedestrian underpass tunnels and roadworks including landscaping. The structural works on the bridge consists of the complete removal of the bridge deck, expansion joints, abutment jacking beams, bridge bearings, traffic barriers, approach slabs and slope paving.
Partial removals of the abutment ballast walls, abutment roof slab, bearing seats, stair treads and pedestrian underpass curbs and floor. New works consists of steel girder cover plates, filler plates, stiffeners, pier jacking beam modifications, abutment jacking beams, splice plates, jacking plates, shear studs, pier and abutment concrete pedestals, bridge bearings and expansion joints, and superstructure coatings.
The new bridge deck is a concrete deck with a combination of black and stainless steel reinforcing as well as new traffic barriers, approach slabs and slope paving. The bridge deck includes deck waterproofing with an asphalt overlay. Ultimately, the St. Vital Bridge Rehabilitation Project will improve travel through the area for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit users.
The tour will be hosted by M.D. Steele’s project team and will overview the cast-in-place concrete deck, structural steel upgrades and urgent work required to stabilize one of the bridge piers. Thanks to M.D. Steele for your hospitality!
Following the tour we’ll be heading to Brazen Hall for appetizers, drinks and networking.
